What hail does to metal — and what it does not

A metal pan is a thin, formed sheet. Hail can leave circular dents, especially on softer alloys or thinner gauges, without piercing the panel. Standing seam can show dents in the flat and still lock at the seam. Exposed-fastener panels can lose washer integrity if ice hits a screw. Soft accessories — plastic vents, ridge caps, and sealants — often fail before the field metal does.
